First Attempt at Cremorne

The cremorne canal is supposed to be good for Australian Salmon. So I thought I would give it a try. I snuck away while everyone was asleep, the plan being to fish and be back by 9:00 am.

Got to the canal at 6:00 am. The tide was high, but going out. It must have been just after the turn of the tide. You could see the shallows where there was about a foot of water, before the drop off into the canal. Another fisherman arrived - -it was his second time at the canal. He was also planning to use soft plastics. Following his advice, I took off my shoes and socks and waded out along the sand flats, in about 6 inches of water. Suddenly a wave came in -- just a normal wave. But the water kept rising and rising. All of a sudden I was in almost 3 feet of water. It must have been a tidal surge. My guess is that the current flowing out of the lagoon had pushed back the sea water, until it suddenly rushed back in.

Anyway, wet and dispirited (and fishless), I drove back to bellerive Bluff. I managed two small salmon on tassie devils. I tried soft plastics and had a hit, but failed to hook up.
