First Trip for Alvin (with his new gear)

Took Alvin to Huntsman.  He had all the new gear -- Sage rod and reel, patagonia breathable waders, new wading boots, new (and mostly empty) fly box.

Started him off on the south shore, fishing a wet.

Luke got a touch before I even got Alvin to the water!  It was looking good!  But it was a day of misses.

Luke got 3 touches.
Alvin got one.
I got a ton of touches.  I lost a tiny fish on an Olive Woolly Bugger.  I lost a nice fish (probably 1.5 lbs) on the Olive Woolly Bugger, right in front of Luke.  I think some foul language may have escaped my lips! I lost a smaller fish on a highland dun in front of Alvin.  At the last gasp I managed to hook and land a small one -- again on an Olive Woolly Bugger.

I got 1 on a Woolly Bugger and dropped many on a dragonfly nymph.  Luke got 3 on a Mrs Simpson.

Trip with Cameron

A fantastic trip with Cameron. We went to woods lake, where Cameron used his kayak, and I used my pontoon boat. I lost a small fish at the pontoon. I hooked one on a dry, but it was so small I flung it 3 or 4 feet on the strike and it flipped off. Cameron released an undersize fish on his spinning tackle.

Tyenna

Just 5, but all but one were sizeable. Lost several more of size. Fish rose to the strike indicator often -- I need hoppers and caddis!!! One of the fish that rose to the strike indicator was a good 5lb+

Tyenna again

13 -- nothing of size. Was fishing for two nice fish when another fisherman walked up to me -- straight along the edge of the pool, scaring away the fish. Etiquette for fishermen seems to have disappeared.

Lukes first on the fly

Took Luke to Four Springs.  Luke had fished a lot, and is an excellent fisherman.  But he had never caught a fish on a fly.

I gave him the 5 weight and an intermediate line with a Mrs Simpson fly.

After 15 minutes I got a touch from a good fish.  A bit later Luke got a good hit.  Then Luke saw a swirl and got into casting position.  The fish took, and it was a spectacular first fish.  3lb, in PERFECT condition.  An amazing fish!!!!

Broke 4 springs

Luke took Paul and myself out on his boat at 4 springs.  No fish.  Obviously, 4 springs has no fish in it -- as it couldn't be a problem with us.

Spin fishers

Got 4 and lost 2. Twice had spin fishers move right up to me -- they just didn't spot the car in the carpark or the fisherman standing by the tree casting!!!! One had a good excuse -- he was working down the bank, and so didn't see me until close. He still started casting about 20' away from me though!!!

First Fish for the Season

Landed 3, lost 6. A bunch of spin fishers pulled up as I was rigging up and proceeded to walk right into my favourite pool. And a tree had fallen down and segmented the junction. However, look carefully and you can see two fish in the stream. I landed the smaller one off a bow and arrow cast from behind the pair.

First Bream on the Fly!

High tide, at Geilston Bay.  Using an olive woolly bugger.  two bream in total.

Last day of the season

4 fish.  Lost one of about 4lb that wrapped me around a stick.

The river had been flooded, and was coming down.  it was raining heavily as I fished, and the river started rising again as I watched.  The fish developed lock jaw with the dirty water coming down.

Easter

14 fish, mostly small.  Saw one monster, but it saw me too.
