Drove to the Tyenna on Christmas eve to get raspberries, but also to teach Erika and Haru and Fabi fly fishing. No luck, though I think Haru actually had two strikes.

Skunked
Skunked on the Tyenna for the first time in years! The river wasn't high, but was unexpectedly murky! No pics -- I forgot to take any.

CEO Visit
The CEO had a 7:30 am meeting in Launceston, so I drove up on Sunday. I drove via a few choice fishing spots!
Started at the Tyenna. The flow was high -- mid 400's. Got 2, but it was hard work. |
Went to Arthurs. It was blowing a gale, the water was lowish. The water was cold. And there was dead weed everywhere. Gave up after 10 minutes |
Went to Brumbies. No luck |
Then tried 4 springs, No luck. |
Finished off with a 'Harri's Curry' |

Kayaking
Took Yurun and a friend out at Conningham. No flathead, so I went in close to the rocks. Something big crushed the hook on my soft plastic -- I assume a Wrasse.

Season openner
On the Tyenna at 6:00 -- light enough to fish at 6:30. Lost one smaller fish. River was low but cold. Left at 9 to go play games at the winter gamefest.

Pedder in Winter
Cameron and I tried Lake Pedder in Winter.
The day was perfect, but the fishing wasnt. I didnt get a touch. Cameron was spinning, and got one follow from a very small fish
It was a 2 hr 15 min drive from home to McPartlans Canal.

Bruny
Stayed the weekend at Bruny. Went to the Jetty on the Sunday morning really, really early.
Got 3 pike (quite large), a nice couta, and lost a lot - -which I suspect were calamari, as Yurun got his first Calamari squid. Got there just after 6. Action had slowed by 7, stopped by 8.

Lake Skinner
Lake Skinner was still open.
1 1/2 hours walk in on a muddy uphill track was no fun. Got a fantastic fish on the 4th cast. No response after that, and it got really cold, so quit after 2 hours.

Morning before leaving
Had fun at the jetty using soft plastics to catch leather jackets. Caught a John Dory -- the first time I have caught one of these!!!!
And then a pod of dolphin swam by. They were a lot closer, but it took me time to get my phone out!!!!

Switch rod try out
At Freycinet for 3 days.
I used my switch rod with its matching switch line. What a transformation. This thing shoots for miles. I can cast almost as far as a spinning rod!!!!
I need to get a 7 weight reel for my 5 weight rod though!!! The switch line is extra thick!
Got a small wrasse in close. Lost a fly (didnt feel anything -- probably a couta), and had a soft touch that took the tail off a flyrod size soft plastic.

After Work
Headed out after work. Got 4 -- small. One was on a pheasant tail 40cm behind a hopper -- the fish were up high and very finicky. I could see larger fish ignoring everything.
