Post Christmas -- river too high

It was raining and raining.   The evening before the river height was OK, but at the top of the range.  Unfortunately, when I got there the river had risen dramatically.  I did some pruning.

Christmas Eve

Went to the Tyenna to get raspberries.  Had to fish for an hour!  Got 2.

Lessons

Took Martha to the Tyenna for lessons in fly fishing.  I promised that she would catch a fish, and it was touch and go, but we eventually got one!

Raspberries!

Bronte with Cameron

This must be the most sucesful trip we have ever had.  Cameron got 3 (one was tiny).  I got 2, and lost another.

We also spent a LOT of time just chatting.

My first fish - -a brown of about 1.5 lb

It was windy.  Soon the waves were high and it was hard to cast!

My 2nd fish -- a rainbow of almost 3 lb

Teaching with no students

I was going to teach a friend, but it was to cold.  But I went anyway!!!

Caught 9, but most were small.  The river was high, and most of the fish I caught were tight to the bank under a tree in a pod.

Melbourne Cup!!!

Got 15 -- about 1/2 were 1 lb, and the other half were really small.

The river was unexpectedly high, so fishing was hard.

Yurun and Gihoo

Took Yurun and Gihoo fishing for the 2nd time.  This time I took them out in the dingy at coningham.  They obviously didnt understand what a dingy was, and were horrified when they saw the small boat.  But we went out.  I got 8 -- 6 flathead and 2 couta.  Both of the boys got 2 fish.  Yurun kept his first fish as it was the first he had ever caught.

Birthday Bash

A cold, rainy day.  Got 28.  It started slow.  But the 1st 4 fish I got were 3lb, 3lb. 1lb. 3lb.  Then it was a succession of 1/2 lb to 1 lb fish.  Activity really peaked just before noon, then the action slowed, so I left by 2:00 pm.

Season Opening

Got one small fish on a nymph.  The river was very high -- coming down from floods.  Had several touches on a woolly bugger, but they didn't turn into fish.

Largest was 3lb+ -- it was much larger once, but was all head and a skinny body.

Platypus Rescue

13 fish -- about 1/2 were nice size (close to 2 lb)

Noticed splashing up the river.  Went up to see, and found a platypus with its leg caught in some line that was snagged on a tree.  Grabbed the line and broke it off.  I was going to pull in the platypus and release it, but the platypus got off the line -- I did get the lure back though (a large soft plastic with a bent hook!)

Trip with Cameron

Went to Bronte with Cameron  Caught one fish -- 2.5 to 3 lbs.
