Alaska Day 10

Carlos (fisherman from yesterday) convinced me to try Byers creek. There is no trail. You have to wade the whole way. Approx 10 km of wading. Absolutely knackered. Got a great Rainbow, but overall fishing was slow.  Near the end we found some spawning king salmon, and the fishing behind them was great.  But the other holes were full of pink salmon and no trout.

Alaska Day 9

Drove to Wasilla for supplies. Planned to try Nancy Lakes for pike. Saw lots of 2 cm pike, but no 100 cm pike.

The fishing shop said anything North of the Chulitna river would have grayling, so headed towards Denali. First river was Troublesome Creek. I walked upstream with minimal luck, until I came around a corner and found a fisherman by the bank re-rigging. He had lost his clippers, so I loaned him mine. We chatted, he gave some tips, and before I knew it we had joined up to fish down river. I got a nice grayling. We fished till 1 am.
